Structure

The Maryland Orthopaedic Association (MOA) is the professional organization for the orthopaedic community in Maryland. Our mission is to encourage, promote, and advance the science and medical art and practice of orthopaedic surgery. We are a membership association organized as a Maryland corporation and operated as a 501(c)(6) under the Internal Revenue Code (EIN 52-1979179). We are the state society affiliate of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

History

We were organized as The Maryland Orthopaedic Society on May 14, 1966 by a group of orthopaedic surgeons whose vision was to establish a vehicle for continued education and fellowship among Maryland orthopaedists and continuous improvement of the profession. Our founders were George N. Austin, M.D., Liebe S. Diamond, M.D., George O. Eaton, M.D., George H. Greenstein, M.D., William P. Horton, M.D., A. Gibson Packard, M.D., and Gerhard Schmeisser, Jr., M.D.
